The Relationship Between Lineage Culture And Marital Stability

Yi Xu is a model of lineage village of Lin Yaohua's study in 1930s.Although the lineage is dying,the lineage culture still affects the daily lives of the villagers.So Ruan Yunxing put forward the concept of "cultural lineage' for the inspection of lineage during the Period of the Republic of China,especially after 1950s.The cultural lineage has abandoned the past functions of political and social,and now it is mainly based on cultural and entertainment.Yi Xu maintains a high stability of the marriage life in the background of national divorce tide.Therefore,the paper discusses the relationship between lineage culture and marital stability by a case of Fujian Yi Xu.Reviewing the relevant literatures,we can find that most scholars focus on description the change between the form,ceremony and view of marriage and family relation.But they don't show the relationship between lineage culture and marital stability.At the same time,Lin Yaohua described Yi Xu in the early 1930s,and now Yi Xu has dramatically changed.A return visit of the family and marital status of Yi Xu can extend the academic life of field studies and it is very meaningful.This paper studies the relationship between cultural lineage and the stability of marriage from three aspects.The first is to study the specific performance of cultural clan on the stability of marriage.The stability of marriage was measured by divorce rate,the knowledge of your spouse before marriage,fertility desire,the "male lord outside homemaking women" model,and marital adjustment.The second is analysing the reasons for the maintenance marital stability of the cultural clan,including continuity of patriarchal family,continuity of parent-child relationship,preventing foreign culture of the closed culture,against the divorce,the influence of marital replacement.The third is the comparative analysis of the negative effects of the stability of marriage in cultural lineage.This research found that the relationship between cultural lineage and the stability of marriage is that the cultural clan can effectively maintain the stability of the marriage,maintaining family harmony.The ethics in lineage culture are internalized marriage harmony into human morals.The lineage village can mediate marital conflict and provide a buffer zone.The cultural clan have an impact on the parent-child relationship,marriage adjustment,marital replacement,the closed culture,public opinion and so on.The cultural clan can play a positive role in the stability of the marriage.The cultural clan has a well-defined boundary.The collective exclusion of foreign groups will destroy the stability of the marriage,and the negative impact of the stability of the marriage in cultural clan.This paradox is not true.It is proved that the existence of the cultural clan and the strong internal cohesion.The internal cohesion of the clan is derived from harmonious family and stable marriages.In conclusion,the negative effects of the stability of marriage turned out the cultural clan could effectively maintain the stability of the marriage in cultural lineage.
