Sino-Senegalese Economic Cooperation:Stakes And Perspectives

The new policy adopted by China since 2000,towards Africa has led to a growing intensification of their relations but also subject to many discussions.Some critics see it as a lever for the emancipation of the African continent while others view it as an obstacle for the development of the continent,even a source of instability.China's new approach toward Africa,dominated by economic motives,which advocate mutual development,has appealed African countries though.This thesis deals with stakes and perspectives of the economic cooperation between China and Senegal.The purpose of this study is to show an objective evaluation of Sino-Senegalese economic cooperation founded on the principles of win-win and,in the framework of cooperation between countries of the south instead of the so called exploitation of a country by another.The incentives for economic cooperation,resulting from a paradigm of a prevailing economic diplomacy are analysed.This paper also stresses the key sectors to which the cooperation is oriented,how it benefits both countries,and at the same time shows the weak sides of it.Suggestions of steps to be taken by both China and Senegal,to overcome the shortcomings are given.This thesis emphasizes as well the importance of Sino-Senegalese economic cooperation and its possible impact on China-Africa regional cooperation.
