After the World War ?,as the defeated nation,Japan suffered from dilemma,Japan's political system, economic system, culture, and citizen society need to be rebuilt.Among these, politics ' rebuilding ought to take the priority.Generally speaking, the political order of the society tends to be chaos easily,if the rebuilding of political system failed, the rebuilding of economic system and society is inclined to failed too. From Japan's perspective, political rebuilding means the transition from a militarism nation to a new liberal democratic nation. In short, democratization.Democratization is a process which is formed by three parts: the collapsing of authoritarian regime, the establishing of democratic regime, and the consolidating of democratic regime. In general, consolidation is the core issue of the democratization. In the Second Wave Democratization, many nations failed in democratic regime and went back to authoritarian regime. However,Japan didn't.The reasons why Japan can make a difference must be special, besides the common reasons which Japan shared with other nations, such as economy growth and citizen society growth. This thesis checks Japan ' s political history and social history from Meiji Restoration with the analytical model of historical sociology and the theory of democratic consolidation, and tries to find out why Japan can succeed in democratic consolidation. The reasons can be divided into two types: factors from Japan its own and new factors which were inputted. Thus, this thesis will contain five parts: the introduction will introduce the background of this research,it includes the origin, brief political history of Japan and relative researches;the first chapter will illustrate the research method and the theory used;the second chapter will talk about the factors belong to Japan himself;the third chapter will discuss how the new factors affect Japan's democratization;the last chapter is the conclusion.
