China's involvement in Zambia is not as well documented as that of Africa as whole. However their approach in Africa is similar for all the countries and in this particular case Zambia.Since its refreshed interest in Zambia, there has been speculation as to whether China's increasing presence in the country and the continent as a whole has had a positive or more negative impact on the development of the continent.Has the economic presence been one that we can say is mutually beneficial as is the key ideology within the win-win principle. This paper aims to answer this question by analyzing China's economic relations with Zambia across various sectors within the country. These include mining, manufacturing, agriculture, energy, transport and of course the Foreign direct investment and trade relations.Given the diverse arguments surrounding China's involvement in Africa, this study also attempts to see the whether these can be validated. The fact is that, very often the Sino-African relations are perceived under the Geo-strategic angle and increasing economic activities leading to massive investments in the continent.Without marginalizing the importance of such an approach, this analysis aims rather to explore the impact of this cooperation from the Zambian people's viewpoint to see how the country perceives this relationship, particularly China's presence mostly in comparison to the Western policy in Africa. This is a dimension of China-Africa relations often occulted in many researches. It is evident that China's interests in Zambia can be attributed primarily by economic and diplomatic considerations. The fact is that China needs Africa and Zambia as a source of resources to feed its exceptional economic growth. At the same time, diplomatically,Africa and in this case;Zambia plays an important role in China's attempt to position itself as a great power in the international system. After an objective examination of the evidence,it appears that China's presence in the African continent is founded on a realistic view based on strategic economic interests. It is also concluded that,as China needs Africa's resources,Africa needs China as well to develop.Today, facts prove that China'sinvolvement in Zambia seems to be favored over its western counterparts..It is up tothe Zambian governments to be a little more pro-active in order to profit from this opportunity.
