In Europe at the beginning of the twentieth century both economic development and integration were influenced by the two world wars:the economy was set back, and the borders had to be redrawn. The Catholic Church was losing its influence. However,Catholicism is deeply rooted in France. The turning point in France occurred in 1905 when the State and the Church were forced to get separated.Since then, secularization has been an important value in France. At the end of the Great War the "religious issue" did not disappear. The aftermath of the Great War was that despite the separation in 1905 between the State and the Catholic Church in France, the Church due to the policy of the Third Republic and Union Sacree could maintain parts of its past power. After the Great War,World War ? started to develop the rules of the new system. The new regime took over. The Vichy regime was forced to make a cooperation relationship with Germany which became decisive for characterizing the regime as "fascist regime".Jewish population were persecuted in France.Just for the statistics,it is important to mention that close to seventy-six thousand Jews left France in cattle cars "to the East".According to the German sources,at the end of the war only three percent out of them returned back to France.Later, despite the big loss,a considerable number of French Jews survived the massacre, thanks to their fellow citizens. The political system:in France was not stable during both of the world wars. For the left-wing Catholic Church in France should have been strictly separated from the state without any possible state subsidies to Catholic schools, while for the right-wing Catholic Church should have get back its role in education, notably via state subsidies to Catholic schools. However,World War? split the believers in the Church. Many Catholics supported the government of Petain, who proclaimed the beginning of the struggle for the revival of Christian civilization and strengthened the influence of the church in public life. But quite a few patriotic Catholics turned out to be in the ranks of non-communist resistance. At the end of the war, against the background of the collapse of the entire legal flank of the party-political spectrum,a general confessional electoral mass was formed, which the Popular Republican Movement(MRP)filled out.The orientation of the MRP on the Catholic electorate has caused a change in its software installations.Radical democratic methods gradually changed to methods of social solidarity, protection of family and religious values,"broad political, social and economic democracy" characteristic of Christian parties. The postwar reality brought many concerns for the French Catholic Church, which were mostly connected with "re-Christianize" the country, thus making the country to be more separated from the Church.
