Modern seal production technology can be divided into two categories bases on the production process: the first is the integral production of the seal, that is,forms printed text and graphics directly on the surface of the seal body(or printed body),such as most carved seals, the integral die-casting seals, etc.;The second is separate seal production, that is,independently prepare the surface before assembling it with the seal body(or printed body)into a integral seal, such as an infiltration seal,a photosensitive seal,an ink seal, and a resin seal. The 3D printing technology is one of rapid prototyping technologies.Different from the traditional stamp production method,it is a technology that uses powder or liquid and other adhesive materials to build objects layer by layer bases on digital model files.Along with the advance of this technology, the increasingly abundant printing materials available to use and growing printing accuracy provide conditions for taking advantage of the technology to imitate seals and printed texts. At present, the research on stamps and seals produced by 3D printing technology is still a virgin area.Although no such cases have been discovered in the appraisal practice so far,it is bound to put forward new requirements and challenges for the judicial appraisers' skills in the future with the continuous maturation of the technique and the steady popularization of the equipment. Therefore,it is of especial significance to conduct pre-study on technologies that have not yet been completelypopularized. This article focuses on the research of the combination of 3D printing technology and identification of stamp and seal, using the current mainstream 3D printing technology in the world and advanced equipment to explore the possibility of imitation of stamps and seals using this technology,as well as new challenges brought to forensic technology. At the same time, the article searched for the characteristics of such seals and seals, analyzed the causes of the characteristics combing technical principles, and finally summarizes the common and stable characteristics to provide reference and direction for future identification. The paper consists of three parts. The first part is the explanation of the principles of 3D printing technology,as well as the principle explaining and basis analyzing of the materials, technologies, and equipment selected for this experiment according to the needs of the production of stamp seals. This chapter focuses on theoretical explanations and preparations for experiments.Since the 3D printing materials, types of technologies, and equipment are complex and costly, scientific screening based on experimental needs is also one of the important tasks of this study accordingly, ensuring the efficiency and scientific and representativeness of the experiment. The second part is the discovery part of the experiment. This part mainly describes the characteristics of the 3D-printing stamps and seals found after the completion of printing the finished product and during the experiment, mainly morphological ones. This includes the analysis of the difference between the stamp imitated from stamp and stamp imitated from the imprint, and the common characteristics of the stamp and imprint produced by 3D printing, making it the main chapter of this article. The third part is the summary of this study and the prospect part, describing the research results and deficiencies of this experiment. The regulatory issues in the 3D printing industry are discussed. At the same time, the article put forward the prospect of the further opportunities and challenges this technology may bring to the forensic development and defense.
