As a political philosopher and historian who lived in the 19th century that liberal theory developed prosperously,John Murray,Edward's mike love-Acton,to safeguard individual freedom as the starting point and the foothold,he sorted out freedom and power struggle and compromise between the interaction relations during the long process of historical development is the through the representation of a large number of historical facts and analysis.To explore the relationship between freedom and power in Acton's political philosophy is of profound theoretical significance and practical value.In view of the insufficiency of the related research at home and abroad,it needs to be further discussed.Acton's view of liberty begins with the relationship between the individual and the state,when the individual in the performance of his duties should be protected from the influence of power and majority,custom and opinion,and the state,only within its immediate jurisdiction,is entitled to assign duties for the division of good and evil.Acton's view of power advocates multiple checks and balances of separation of powers,and freedom exists in the mutual balance between powers.Only the political system that restricts power with power is the best political system.This paper attempts to start with the relationship between freedom and power in Acton's political philosophy,after discussing the connotation of freedom and power separately,this paper explores the relationship between freedom and power.Although Acton did not emphasize the relationship between freedom and power,his discussion on freedom is inseparable from power.This paper will focus on the two key words of"freedom" and "power",discuss what is freedom,what is power,and the relationship between freedom and power,aiming at exploring the political system assumption of separation of powers proposed by Acton after the relationship between freedom and powerThis thesis is divided into three parts and six chapters to study and discuss the relationship between freedom and power in Acton's political philosophy.The first chapter points out the influence of Acton's political philosophy at home and abroad and the research status of his political philosophy by scholars.The second chapter analyzes and discusses the origin of Acton's political philosophy from two aspects of external influence and subjective conditions.The third chapter three begins with the meaning of freedom and discusses how he views the emergence,development and progress of freedom in his historical writing.The fourth chapter four starts from the definition of power and studies his multiple checks and balances on power.The fifth chapter will combine the relationship between freedom and power to make an overall exposition of Acton's political philosophy.The sixth chapter makes a comprehensive evaluation of Acton's political philosophy,focusing on the discussion of his separation of powers and constitutional view from the perspective of safeguarding and protecting individual freedom.It is hoped that the analysis of the relationship between freedom and power in Acton's political philosophy can provide some help for the relevant research on this issue.Acton's political philosophy based on his religious background and political stance was a lot of criticism and questioned,but his unremitting pursuit of individual freedom,his views on the relationship between freedom and power?democracy?conscience and tolerance have important implications for modern life and deserve reflection.
