Wang Tao was a famous political commentator, historian and early bourgeois reformer at the end of Qing Dynasty. The academic circles call it "the special case of late Qing Dynasty".On the one hand,it puts forward a comprehensive modernization thought, which provides a good recipe for China to become independent, rich and strong in the late Qing Dynasty. However, due to the limitations of the times and historical conditions, the socialization of Wang Tao's modernization thought is very weak.It was not until his later years that he founded circular daily to publicize his reform thought and served as the dean of Gezhi academy to practice his modern education idea.Although Wang Tao and other bourgeois reformers have gone a long way, their unique thinking on cultural exchanges and mutual learning between China and the West and their exploration of China's unique modernization development path still have great reference and guiding significance for today's socialist modernization construction in China.Wang Tao's thought of modernization is a comprehensive product of a great innovation not seen in a thousand years and the achievement of western advanced civilization. At the end of the Qing Dynasty, western countries opened the door of China's seclusion with military force. In the unprecedented situation of the millennium, the enlightened landlord class began to seek the way to save the country from subjugation and survival, and attempted to achieve the goal of self-improvement and wealth through the Westernization Movement. However, after decades of the Westernization Movement, the current situation of poverty, backwardness and bullying by others in China has not improved, which prompted Wang Tao to think about the correctness of the dualism of the western style and the use of the body and the use of the body in the Westernization Movement.Experiencing the achievements of western advanced civilization and realizing the huge gap between China and the West in material and spiritual civilization,Wang Tao put forward comprehensive modernization reform measures in politics, economy, education and military, which explore a practical modernization road for China in the late Qing Dynasty.Wang Tao has four dimensions such as politics, economy, education and military in his modernization thought. In politics,Wang Tao advocated breaking the old feudal autocracy in China to establish a new western constitutional monarchy, reforming the old feudal bureaucratic system in China to establish a clean and efficient new bureaucratic system, and widely participating in the political decision-making to ease the long-standing class contradictions; In economy,Wang Tao advocated encouraging the people to make their own In order to realize the profit sharing with foreign countries,it is advocated to develop the commodity economy and overseas trade actively so as to realize the prosperity of the country and the strength of the people; In terms of education,Wang Tao advocated the establishment of western style museum to try to shape new citizens, the establishment of new academies to cultivate professional and comprehensive talents, and the reform of the old eight part imperial examination system to cultivate practical talents suitable for the actual needs of national development; In the aspect of military affairs,Wang Tao advocated learning advanced western military technology to update old weapons and equipment, learning from Western military training methods to reform the traditional military system and improve the combat effectiveness of the army, and strengthening the construction of the navy to achieve effective maritime defense.Wang Tao advocated the equality of men and women in his magnificent modernization thought, and advocated learning from the West in an all-round way, emphasizing both ways and effects; His modernization thought provided important ideological guidance for the reform movement of 1898,opened up a new practical road for China's modern transformation, and provided a reasonable basis for the cultural exchange between China and the West. However,as the intellectuals of the late Qing Dynasty who wandered between the traditional and the modern, there are inevitably many contradictions in Wang Tao's modernization thoughts. The first one is the mutual exclusion between criticizing the feudal autocratic monarchy and defending the autocratic monarchy, the second one is the contradiction between criticizing the eight part imperial examination system and admitting the writers to a certain extent, and the last one is to hate the aggression of the Western powers and beautify the aggression of the Western powers Conflict of conduct. Many limitations in Wang Tao's modernization thought need the author's objective and dialectical view and analysis.
