As the largest oil field in China,Daqing Oilfield has provided a steady stream of industrial blood for China's industrial development during the 60 years of oil field's exploration and development, which supported the development and prosperity of China's industry. In Daqing, the city which is based on petroleum resource, the majority of Daqing petroleum workers who are represented by the model ‘Iron Man' Wang Jinxi, are the main force in urban development and construction, the typical representative of China's oil workers, and are also the flags and excellent examples of the working class in China. With the good traditions of hard working,Daqing oil workers have gone through the arduous oil battle and inherited the ‘Daqing Spirit' and ‘Iron Man Spirit' in China's socialist core value system. However,in the new era, with the growth of China's socialist market economic, the objective class status and subjective class identity of the working class in China are standing certain changes.Besides, with the innovation of measures in digital reform of Daqing Oilfield, also made Daqing oil workers' career development faces new changes and challenges, which were not met in past decades. Therefore,we explored Daqing oil workers' perception and evaluation of their own class status in the new era and compared it with the national working class' s identification, which has certain practical significance and value to the new era. This research combined quantitative and qualitative research methods to study the class identity of Daqing oil workers in the new era.Through field visits and purposive sampling selecting survey respondents,a total of 846 valid questionnaires were collected.Comparing the status of the sample population's class identity with the class identity status of the whole working class in China. It is found that the status is lower than the whole working class'.By means of independent sample T test and contingency table analysis, the different identity characteristics and the different occupational characteristics of Daqing petroleum workers were compared and analyzed. The conclusions drawn are: age, household, registration status, educational level, working years, the nature of job,job level, labor intensity, task complexity and monthly income all affect the subjective social class identity of Daqing oil workers.Based on the analysis of data, combined with open interviews, the general status of the personality and occupational characteristics of Daqing petroleum workers in the new era is presented clearly, and through analysis,it could be concluded that Daqing petroleum worker class identification is not as good as before, showing a downward trend. The urban-rural dual social structure has a greater influence on the Daqing petroleum worker class identification. The Daqingpetroleum worker class identification is depoliticized and the front-line petroleumworkers are restricted by the hard working environment and other factors that limittheir class identification. The identification of the bottom class of Daqing oilworkers in the new era is not conducive to the harmonious and stable developmentof all social classes, and it cannot completely avoid the recurrence of collective protests. Therefore, the government and Daqing oilfield are supposed to enhance the pride of the current generation of Daqing oil workers;pay attention to the migrant workers among Daqing oil workers under the urban-rural dual social structure;increase the level of humane care and treatment of frontline oil workers to improve their class identity.
