This paper conducts a thorough study on the India-Japan bilateral relations from the perspective of the newly emerging geopolitical concept of Indo-Pacific.As there is a convergence between these two countries' Indo-Pacific visions, their bilateral relations have witnessed a great progress and their cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region is being developed.Since the then prime minister of Japan Yoshiro Mori visited India in 2000,the India-Japan relations has come into an active era. With the surging of the new geopolitical idea of Indo-Pacific,both India and Japan have come up with their own Indo-Pacific visions.Although Japan has formed its Free and Open Indo-Pacific Strategy while India doesn't.there is no a little convergence between their Indo-Pacific visions. They are both committed to pursuing a free, open and prosperous Indo-Pacific region, improving the regional connectivity of communication and trade, acknowledging ASEAN's centrality and maintaining the maritime security of the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean. And such convergence has to a great deal guided and pushed their bilateral relations making progress in the area of political alignment, economic and trade cooperation and security cooperation, giving new geopolitical meaning to the India-Japan cooperation. In chapter one this paper analyzes India and Japan's Indo-Pacific visions respectively, and makes a comparison between them.Their common support for “shared values” and “rule-based order” promotes the political alignment between them.As they both pursue the region's prosperity and connectivity, they are willing to enhance their economic cooperation.Maritime security means a lot to both of them,so they strengthen their security cooperation. Thus this paper shows how they advance their cooperation in political alignment, economy and security respectively in chapter two, three and four.Chapter five discussed the features, problems and future of the India-Japan relations, and then offers some suggestions to our nation. This paper focuses on a novel issue, and notices the latest developments of the India-Japan relations. And this paper proposes a new point of view: the convergence between India's Indo-Pacific vision and Japan's Indo-Pacific vision provides motives for the India-Japan relations while their divergence may come as a setback to the bilateral relations.
