The Kennedy administration's China policy had a profound impact on the U.S.China policy in the 1960 s,and established the general tone of the U.S.China policy in the 1960 s.Therefore, the study of the Kennedy administration's China policy can grasp the U.S.China policy in the 1960 s.The relationship between China and the United States changed from the confrontation in the 1950 s to the detente in the 1970 s,which was not achieved overnight.Through the study of the Kennedy administration's China policy,we can find the reasons for the detente of Sino-American relations from the confrontation in the 1950 s to the 1970 s.The Kennedy administration was in the new international situation, namely the disintegration of the world colonial system, the rise of the third world and the improvement of China's international status, which provided conditions for the change of the Kennedy administration's China policy. The Kennedy Administration's China policy is specifically manifested in the following: "Important Issues" cases continue to resolutely prevent China from restoring United Nations representation, organize the signing of a "Partial Nuclear Test Ban Treaty" to prevent China from developing nuclear weapons, and try to engage with China to jointly oppose the launch of the third Taiwan Strait Crisis, providing assistance to China's food shortage crisis.thought the Kennedy administration's China policy on specific issues of performance is different, which reflects the rigid containment policy and the characteristics of the appropriate flexible policies to coexist. On the above issues, the Kennedy administration's China policy depends on the national interest of the United States. When it is in the national interest of the United States, the Kennedy administration adopts a flexible China policy. When the national interest of the United States was violated, the Kennedy administration adopted a rigid containment policy. However, under the international background of the cold war,the general tone of the Kennedy administration's containment policy towards China will not change.Under the combined effect of the domestic political factors in the United States and China, the Kennedy administration would not fundamentally change its China policy because it did not have the conditions to completely change it.Even so,the Kennedy administration's China policy still played a key role in the normalization of Sino-American relations in the 1970 s,which also reflected the importance of studying the Kennedy administration's China policy.
