| With the popularity of mobile phones among secondary vocational school students,the prevalence of mobile phone dependence is increasing among secondary vocational school students.Previous research showed that personality traits and parenting styles of adolescents have significant effects on mobile phone dependency.These two factors may influence adolescents’ mobile phone dependency through their subjective well-beings indirectly.The current research sampled 471 students from one secondary vocational school in Shenzhen to investigate the condition of secondary vocational school students’mobile phone dependency.Meanwhile,current study investigated the relationships among mobile phone dependency,personality traits,subjective well-beings and parenting style for secondary vocational school students through path analyses.The current study aims to further explain the influencing mechanism of mobile phone dependency among secondary vocational school students.The current results showed that the prevalence of dependency on cell phone tendency was 24.8%among the sample of secondary vocational school students.There was significant gender difference of secondary vocational school students’ mobile phone dependency.Female users were more likely to be in the dependency group than male users.Regression analysis showed that when the length of mobile phone ownership was controlled,neuroticism,extraversion,responsibility and autonomy parenting had a significantly predictive effect on dependency on cell phones.Structural equation modeling analysis showed among the students with mobile phone dependency tendency,neuroticism and extraversion had direct effects on their subjective well-beings,which was in turn negatively associated with the mobile phone dependency.The current research contributed to the small amount of literature on secondary vocational school students’mobile phone dependency.In addition,through the investigation of the factors related to the mobile phone dependency,the current research gives some enlightenment to the parents,teachers and policy makers.Teachers and parents should pay more attention to the students with mobile phone dependency.In order to prevent and intervene with mobile phone dependency among secondary vocational school students,Education Department could take some measures by improving the students’ subjective well-beings. |
