Jaspers(1883-1969),one of the founders of German existentialist philosophy in the 20 th century,has been involved in many fields in his life.Therefore,he is called the "the broadest horizon" existentialist philosopher,and his world citizen education thought was formed in the last thirty years of his life.Jaspers’ world citizen education thought was closely related to the social background: Jaspers was persecuted by the authorities because of his Jewish wife during the World War II,Jasper felt abandoned by his own motherland.As if he was Citizen who had no nationality.After World War II,the partition and occupation of the Victors,the invasion of foreign families,the economic decline and so on made the German nation into a confused spiritual crisis.It was precisely because Jaspers saw the lack of traditional German culture and to save the German people’s spiritual world,Jaspers proposed world citizen education thought.The formation of Jasper’s thought is deeply influenced by Kant’s theory of phenomenology,rationality and intellectuality,Kierkegaard’s theory of existence,Marx’s rationality and communication theory.Jaspers’ thought of World Citizen Education is not only the moisture of the times,but also the support of his philosophical thought.Among them,His Philosophy of the Encyclopedia is the foothold of his thought of World Citizen Education;the world philosophy which got rid of the European Center is the theoretical category;the axis of the theory of Jaspers’ history philosophy provided a human "common point".In Jaspers’ thought of world citizenship education,to resist the serious and unstable international situation caused by the US-Soviet hegemony,Jaspers desired to establish a new international order in which the multipolar civilizations would restrain each other so as to achieve a peaceful and free world.While globalization provides an opportunity for mankind to become an interdependent community and mankind enters the second "axis of the age." In the global community,Jaspers’ idea of civic education in the world seeks to create a new image of the world’s citizens.According to Jaspers,a qualified citizen of the world as a dignified presence should have "integrity ofknowledge",bear the responsibility of the community,own freedom,a rational spirit and mental health;he should also have an international perspective and other qualities.Besides,he should accept the "survival" education and "spiritual" education.As a qualified world citizen,he should carry out extensive,endless universal communication,this interaction is no longer the premise of the dialogue between two people but to emphasize the dialogue and exchanges between the public,among them,"Equality" is the basis of universal communication,"Freedom" is the field of universal communication,and "Love" is the link of universal communication.Jaspers’ thought of World Citizen Education is the result of the development of the times and the experience of Jasper’s own life.This idea is the reconstruction of the collapsing German spiritual world,which has certain value to the post-war world peace.It also has some inspiration on the citizen education especially spirit construction in our country.
