High performance sport has generally determined by exquisite techniques and tactics, teamwork and coaching abilities.Whereas, psychological factors sometimes play an important role as well.Such as China women volleyball team has been deserved good reputation domestic and abroad with their spiritual dedication.Stress, which is one of the most important external behaviors in human body, has been the focus of sports psychology.Generally speaking,it is believed that players' mental expressions are resulted in the coordination of internal emotions and external behaviors.Psychologists imply that this pattern is correlated with stress. For volleyball games, there are two dominant tactics which consist of offensive system and defensive system. Therefore, players' mental factors could influence their defensive abilities,to which stress no doubt play an effective role in performance directly or indirectly. The study conducted a survey to twelve women volleyball teams who competed in 2016-2017 National Leagues, and it mainly focused on the correlation between players' stress and defensive abilities, with the methodologies of documents, statistics and psycho-metrics.The study is supposed to promote some suggestions and reference for the improvement of women volleyball performance and psychological training as well. The study came to the following results:Firstly, the teams of A class, such as Si Chuan and Jiang Su,they demonstrate the best defensive abilities.Shan Dong team, which is in E class, needs to enhance the defensive system however.Meanwhile,it is also implied from the comparison that teams of Shan Dong and Yu Nan may improve blocking and defense abilities, whereas receiving abilities of Fu Jian and Shan Dong team need to be focused more.Secondly, injuries, failures and interpersonal relationships are the dominant stress factors. And the teams with various defensive abilities have displayed the diversities of stress response, which mainly suggested that better defensive abilities have been accompanied with more stress response to injuries and pressures.Thirdly,it could be specified that defensive abilities of players in the first three classes have strong correlations with injuries, failures, interpersonal relationships, and pressures.Players in D class are affected with injuries, failures and interpersonal relationships, whereas players in E class are more sensitive to failures, interpersonal relationships, pressures and environment factors. Finally, injuries are the predictive resources to the players' defensive abilities of the first three classes, whereas player's defensive abilities in D class have injuries, interpersonal relationships and failures as predictive resources, and E class players pay attention to failures, interpersonal relationships and pressures. The study has drawn some conclusions:Firstly,it is obvious that players of different defensive abilities show close relation between their defensive abilities and stress. And low level players have been much more influenced by psychological factors, whereas they have displayed the various tendencies to stress response.Secondly, the study promoted that stress has also played a predictive role to all levels players' defensive abilities, but predictive resources are somehow different.
