Knee osteoarthritis(KOA)as one of the common diseases for the elders has been influenced patients' lives. It's important to control the disease by explore the 3D motion of knee. However, the knee kinematic changes in the frontal and horizontal planes of KOA patients remain unclear.Meanwhile, there has few studies have analyzed brisk walking can change kinematic of the knee for KOA patients.Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate changes in vivo 3D knee kinematic gait variables of KOA patients, and figure out whether the brisk walking can improve the knee function for KOA patients. Methods: Recruit 29 patients with osteoarthritis of the knee separated to brisk walking group and walking group.Meanwhile a control group about 15 individuals of similarly aged without KOA was collected. At the beginning, all participants were evaluated by Knee KG system, then after walking training, the two walking groups were evaluated again.Statistical analysis was performed to determine differences between the walking groups and the control group.Results:(1)Patients with KOA walked slowly than the control group. In the sagittal plane, the range of flexion/extension angle and maximum flexion angle during swing phase were less in KOA group than in control group, but during stance, the maximum extension angle was greater in KOA group. In the frontal plane, the range of adduction/abduction between these two groups was no significant difference, but at the time of initial contact,KOA group showed greater adduction angle than control group. In the horizontal plane,at the time of initial contact, the tibia shows greater posterior translation in KOA group and the excursion of axial tibia rotation was significantly less than the control group.(2)After walking training, there was no significant difference between walking groups in the frontal and horizontal planes, but in sagittal plane, the kinematic significant changed in brisk walking group, including the range of flexion/extension angle?the maximum extension angle during stance and the maximum flexion angle during swing.Conclusion:(1)comparing to the control group,a different motorial mechanism showed in the KOA group by decreased range in sagittal and axial tibia rotation, and tibia translation posteriorly.(2)12 weeks brisk walking can improve the knee function of KOA patients, especially in sagittal plane during 12 weeks.
