Nowadays, the traditional rocking tactics are no longer suitable for women's singles tournaments,a more masculine style in woman's play has become the trend at women singles. This article mainly studies the technical and tactical characteristics of the Spanish badminton female singles player,Carolina Marín Martin, and provide a reference for scholars who are devoted to study the techniques and tactics of badminton women's singles,as well as badminton coaches who devote themselves to the work. This article lists statistics of the usage and the scoring of the techniques Marín used in 10 games during 25 major events during 2014-2016 through research from literatures, video observations, mathematical statistics and comparative analysis.Mainly to perform an in-depth comparative analysis on the Marín's play techniques and tactical maneuvers to discover similarities and differences in her and her opponent.characteristic technique patterns during the games;drawing the following conclusions:(1)Marín serve technique is different from the forehand serves used by Chinese women singles players. She entirely adopts backhand serves, with backhand serve drop shots as a main method, and the backhand serve backcourt kill strike as a subsidiary method.(2)Marín serves concentrated mostly in area No.1 and 5,mainly serve towards the closer corner and forecourt or midfield, the quality of services are very high.(3)Marín mostly uses a diagonal line during her return of service;mostly uses push shots in the forecourt, and kill shots in the backcourt. Moreover, the techniques she uses for her return of service seems obviously better than that of her opponent.(4)As for techniques in the forecourt,Marín mainly uses net shots and lifts, but the lifts technique has a higher rate of losing points, the return line is mostly a straight line.In order to obtain more opportunities to attack towards the backcourt and be good at maneuvering the opponents, tactics were shown in net shots to control the opponents net play.Especially since the forecourt diagonal can be a very good defence and counter-attack,and rushing is Marín's major scoring technique in thegame.Although the frequency used is not high, the success rate is high.(5)As for midfield,Marín uses the blocking technique mostly, usually in a straight line for her kill shot returns, and rarely shows a diagonal kill shot return. She does not rashly use an overhead shot, instead, she uses a midfield flat-drive blocking technique to overwhelm the opponent's midfield. However, these two midfield techniques have cost her a lot of points, blocking was the technique that cost Marín to lose the most point.(6)Marín's technique in the backcourt are mainly forehand overhead shots, drop shots, and kill shots. All of which are very offensive trends. She has a strong ability to make consecutive kills which allows her to block net plays using the tactic of a high smash.Generally, she attacks in a straight line, and diagonal lines are used for smashes and transitions only. The backcourt kill shots and the drop shots are Marín's main scoring methods, but these two techniques also have a higher rate of losing points.(7)Marín 's scoring areas concentrates in the forecourt and backcourt through the use of smash shots to gain dominance, then follow through with net kills towards the opponent. No other fancy tricks needed to score. The main area of her points lost also concentrates in the forecourt and backcourt.Kill shots can give Marín a lot of chances to take initiative, but at the same time, they also create a lot of loopholes in defence. This kind of 'gambling' attack can often help Marín get a fast score, but she might lose the point just as fast. This is also the important reason of how Marín loses points.
