The Role Distance Of Social Workers In Case Work

With the rapid development of social work in China,social workers as professional service personnel are gradually known by the public.Therefore,it is inevitable for social workers trained with western theories to encounter some problems in practice which is based on the reality of our country.The case work,as one of three major methods of social work,plays an important role in practice.Meanwhile,the case work is the closest way of interaction between social workers and their objects.In this process,the appropriateness of social workers as well as its actual degree.Will have impacts on the progress and effects of case service.What's more,there is a problem that is role distance in practice when social worker play roles due to the influence of social workers and observer.The role distance is not only the distance between the ideal role and the real role,the role expected by the case and the role established by social workers themselves,but also the distance between the role expected by the observer and the role shaped by the social workers themselves.This three kinds of distance will have influence on not only observer and social workers,but also the smooth progress of case services.Through the way of interview,this paper not only has known about the situations of role playing in the case work from the perspective of interviewees,but also known the programs of social worker's case intervention.Based on the analysis of the content,this paper has explored the root reasons of role distance and sought solutions to shorten the role distance.All of these aim to help social workers define roles clearly in case work so as to play roles,set up professional images of social workers and promote public recognition of social work profession.
