OBJCTIVE:Based on self-determination theory(SDT)and localized research orientation, this paper explores the exercise intensity and duration of obese and overweight adults when they choose to run independently, and its impact on forging persistence,so as to provide theoretical basis for obese and overweight adults to lose weight healthily.METHODS:Fifty-nine healthy,low-volume(less than 60 minutes/week)and overweight(BMI 25.0-39.9)adults aged 20-30 years were randomly divided into experimental group(n=30)and control group(n=29).The goal was to run for 30-60 minutes/day,at least five times a week, for six months. The experimental group accepted the suggestion of self-paced excise(exercise intensity not exceeding 76%of maximum heart rate and running duration of 30-60 minutes)while the control group chose the suggestion of moderate intensity excise(exercise intensity controlled at 64-76%of maximum heart rate and running duration of 40 minutes). All participants wore Garmin Fenix5 smart sports watches and matched heart rate in each exercise session, bringing real-time exercise data such as tracking weekly exercise frequency, duration and heart rate(exercise intensity).According to the real-time recorded exercise data of the two groups, independent sample T test was used to compare the difference of average weekly exercise intensity(heart rate)and total exercise time between the two groups.Using Simplified Version of Physical Motivation Measurement(MPAM),two groups were measured before and after the experiment, and T test was conducted to compare the changes of exercise motivation before and after the experiment.RESULT:Compared with the control group, the experimental group had more running minutes per week under the condition of self-selection exercise intensity, and increased about 26 minutes per week in 6 months on average.Independent sample t-test results showed that the average weekly exercise intensity(heart rate)was not significantly different between the experimental group and the control group(p>0.05),and the average total weekly exercise time was more in the experimental group than in the control group(p<0.01).The results of paired sample T test before and after the exercise behavior adjustment measurement showed that the exercise motivation of the experimental group increased significantly(p<0.01),while the exercise motivation of the control group did not change significantly(p>0.05).Comparing the difference of exercise motivation enhancement between the two groups, the effect of exercise motivation enhancement in the experimental group was significantly better than that in the control group(p<0.05).CONCLUSION:Obese and overweight adults have stronger exercise initiative, longer exercise time and better exercise persistence effect when walking exercise with independent choice of exercise intensity and exercise duration.
