Because of the rapid development of science and technology and the continuous increase of population,while science and technology bring convenience to people,a series of controversial issues have arisen,such as the safety of genetically modified food,the safety of vaccines and various ecological problems.People’s different life backgrounds,cultural differences,values and so on lead to different attitudes and views on such issues,and even make different decisions.Therefore,this kind of problem is called "socioscientific issues"(SSI).Mass research at home and abroad have shown that the application of SSI in science classroom can help improve students’ scientific literacy,moral sensitivity,social responsibility and moral ethics.By defining the connotation of social responsibility,taking some junior middle school biology teachers and students in Changsha as the subjects of investigation,this study investigated the status quo of students’ social responsibility training in biology class and teachers’ awareness of social responsibility highlighted in biology curriculum content through self-compiled questionnaires.And on this basis,this study analyzed problems in the process of cultivating students’ social responsibility in biology teaching.In addition,based on the results of teachers’ questionnaires,this paper combs the relevant contents of socialresponsibility education highlighted in junior middle school biology textbooks published by the People’s Education Press,which provides a reference for front-line teachers to cultivate students social responsibility in teaching.In order to teach SSI smoothly in biology classroom,this study has sorted out the selection methods of topics in SSI teaching in the classroom,based on the previous analysis of relevant contents of social responsibility education in the textbooks,completed a list of SSI related to teaching contents that can be used to cultivate students’ social responsibility.By reading the literature,the study summed up the suitable SSI for junior middle school biology classroom and introduced three teaching methods in SSI teaching: role playing,debating and argumentation writing.Finally,two teaching cases of SSI in biology classroom are designed and practiced.Teaching practice shows that students are willing and able to learn SSI in the classroom,and through a in-depth discussion of SSI,students develop social responsibility to a certain extent.At the same time,this paper analyzed the problems existing in the application of SSI in class,and advised corresponding suggestions,which can contribute to the first-line teachers to apply SSI in biology classroom to cultivate students’ social responsibility.
