The Construction Of Collective Memory In The Opening Ceremony Of The Olympic Games

The opening ceremony is one of the most important Olympic Games ceremonies;it offers a good opportunity for the host city and country to show the world about its historical culture,national characteristics and social status.And it also develops and expands the Olympic spirit,and expresses the artistic and aesthetic taste.The host country used advanced technology and gorgeous art style to spread to the whole world about its historical culture at the opening ceremony,and this has changed the nation's collective memory for us.The collective memory is a huge system of signs,it contains different symbols and many inherent content framework.The construction of the collective memory is more or less based on the existing collective memory elements.To analyze the construction of collective memory,it is necessary to discover the main contents of the construction,and analyze what symbols and contents have presented such memories.In this paper,the opening ceremonies of the 27th to the 31st Summer Olympic Games,namely Sydney,Athens,Beijing,London and Rio Olympic Games opening ceremony are regarded as the research object,and by using the method of literature analysis and content analysis,the text of the video data of the opening ceremony was analyzed.Also,this paper will "break" the opening ceremony of the whole,and disassemble the symbols and elements in each opening ceremony,to find out the ceremony's features and symbol elements,trying to restore the construction framework of collective memory.So,the core issue of this paper is that,what symbols and art styles did the opening ceremonies of these five Olympic Games have been used to construct our collective memory on the host countries and cities,and what are the similarities and differences of the factors influencing the construction of collective memory at the opening ceremony.Through the analysis it can be concluded that,each opening ceremony of the Olympic Games has its own style and characteristics.Sydney moves the world with indigenous art and water ignition ceremony;Athens expresses art with ancient Greek civilization;Beijing create classic by using grand and magnificent scene;London brings surprises with British humor;Rio moved the world with environmental issues and Samba enthusiasm,all these shows have shaped people's collective memory.And the construction of these collective memories are affected by multiple factors,including the factors of politics and economy,history and culture,the director team and the form of performance and technology.Analysis of their similarities and differences can make people form a rational view of the opening ceremony and construct the collective memory from multiple dimensions.Meanwhile,it should be noted that,the periodicity of the opening ceremony has strengthened the construction of collective memory,and the powers of the world have opened up a new model of memory construction at the opening ceremony and strengthened their position of power.What's more,the construction process of being suppressed by the world powers will produce the phenomenon of "anti-memory".Only through reasonable and correct construction can the collective memory of the Olympic legacy continue to inherit,and this will lead to a more healthy and sustainable development for the Olympic Games.
