An Analysis Of The Cultural Connotation Of The University Celebration Ritual

As a kind of campus ritual,the university celebration ritual is not only a significant ceremony,a grand festival,a display of achievements,a cohesiveness of the human heart and a spiritual awakening,but also a memory with cultural characteristics;it is not only a carrier of university spirit and cultural value,but also an important way for universities to educate people.With the rise of the domestic“university celebration boom",it is particularly important to pay attention to the university celebration ritual and the study of the culture of the university celebration ritual.Guided by the theory of higher education and anthropology,this study regards the university campus as a ritual field,and regards the university celebration as a ritual component in the campus,taking Xiamen University as a case to carry out related analysis and theoretical discussion from macro to micro.From the macroscopic aspect,back to the history of Xiamen University in the past 100 years,the celebration ritual of Xiamen University has experienced the stage of infancy,inheritance,renascence,suspension and perfection,and from those sporadic fragments outlining the unique charm of the celebration ritual of Xiamen University:management culture,academic culture and education culture.From the microscopic aspect,in the“fields”of the 97th celebration ritual of Xiamen University,four sub-rituals present different characteristics.The site selection,principle deliver,donation ritual,award ritual and chorus ritual of the celebrating meeting ritual show the sacred solemnity and emotional expression.Academic ritual and stylistic ritual,as the largest composition highlights the subtle and far-reaching nature of the university culture through non-deliberate disclosure,non-verbal communication and symbolic representation.The sacrifice ritual infiltrates the grateful and traditional culture from the process form,the practice and the time selection.Based on historical exploration and practical survey,the celebration ritual as a carrier of the university culture and spirit,embodies its significance and value of connotation in the following four aspects:culture connotation of material,culture connotation of behavior,cultural connotation of institution and cultural connotation of spirit.The cultural connotation of the Xiamen University celebration ritual is mainly reflected in:culture connotation of material:basis on the“Excellence”;culture connotation of behavior:inheritance of“JiaGeng”spirit;cultural connotation of institution:record of“NanqQiang”confidence;and cultural connotation of spirit:cohesion of“ZiQiang”power.At the same time,the relationship between the university celebration ritual and university culture is reflected in the following aspects:the culture of the university celebration ritual has been integrated into the historical process of university development,complementing other cultures to propel the university cultural more fleshy and powerful.Continuous improvement and innovation of the university celebration ritual;from the outside to the inside,from the shallow to the deep;from the tangible to the intangible,from the macro to the details,accumulate into a university's immortal spirit and profound culture.
