Higher education has entered or is in the process of the popularization stage.On the one hand,it aims to meet people's growing demand,and meanwhile,it plays a more and more important role in the aspects of technological advancements,the take-off of economy and social development.On the other hand,the government,employers,students and their parents and the increasingly diversified higher education investment bodies are gradually started to pay attention to the development of higher education.At present,the contents and methods of evaluation on university competitive are many and varied which make the university evaluation and its ranking has become the main focus of attention.However,because of the arguments on the scientific,fair and effective of the university evaluation and its ranking,the evaluation of university competitiveness and the attitude of its implementation of university rankings are not consistent.Through the scientific and reasonable evaluation of competitiveness,we can find out the distribution of resources,strength,achievements,benefits,etc,and find out the comparative advantages and problems of each university.Making their improvement focuses and development directions unequivocal which can provide the basis and the reference for the relevant government departments,universities and social investment's scientific,standardized decision-making and management and also can provide the basis and the reference for the community and the vast majority of members of the society to understand or choose schools.Through the self-orientation will benefit the construction of oneself,and promote its efficient management,enhance the connotation,constantly adjust the orientation in education provisionThe competitiveness evaluation is still in the exploratory stage,the relevant theory is relatively weak.This paper uses principal component neural network to recognize the competitiveness of colleges and universities,and construct the key evaluation index system of university competitiveness.It also adopt the method of cluster analysis on the competitiveness of colleges and universities to determine the optimal cluster number of similarity and the competitiveness of universities.We set forth knotty problems exist in the current university competitiveness evaluation from this research,and put forward some opinions and suggestions about competitiveness evaluation,hoping to enrich its sorting and evaluation theory,in addition to provide the basis and the reference for the universities' self-orientation.
