Zhang Xiong is a highly influential educator in the construction of the Chinese language discipline in the 20th century.From the beginning of his job in 1951 until his death in January 2019,he has been devoted to the construction and development of the Chinese language discipline,especially in Chinese writing.It has made outstanding contributions in teaching and evaluation.Zhang Xiong's decades of hard work has provided a lot of inspiration for the reform of Chinese language teaching,writing teaching,and writing assessment.In terms of the basic theory of writing teaching,Zhang Xiong made a series of explorations with "mutual training of language and thinking" as the basic starting point.He proposed that "conciseness,coherence,and decentness" be the basic requirements of writing training.This view has been widely recognized and written into the Chinese language outline,which is still used today.Zhang Xiong's design of writing tutorials for middle school students mainly includes the updating of writing courses,the layout of writing textbooks and the scientific design of writing exercises.In his view,the training mode of "Famous Masters+Scientific Training Method" is a scientific training method that meets the development needs of young people.The design of "separate reading and writing,double sets of teaching materials" needs to be further implemented and promoted.He enlightened that educators need to update the writing knowledge system in time on the basis of correctly positioning the writing ability training goals,and explore more scientific language training courses.During his tenure as a Chinese language teacher in middle school,Zhang Xiongput his own writing curriculum ideas into teaching practice,conducted experiments on "small essay writing" and "contemporary literary lectures",and the students showed unprecedented passion for writing.From the perspective of the quality of the works presented,the students'minds were broadened,and the content of the composition was more vivid and full of vitality,which inspired new teaching for many Chinese teachers at the time.Regarding the reform of writing assessment,Zhang Xiong has presided over the proposition work of the National Chinese College Entrance Examination and has made various attempts to write propositions.He believes that it is necessary to develop a more scientific scoring reference scale and improve the examination system in all aspects to minimize the negative impact of subjective assessment in large-scale examinations.Zhang Xiong devoted his life to the Chinese language education,not only left precious articles and materials,but also raised many questions and unfinished thinking,waiting for educators to discuss further.
