The study aimed to examine how effective the governing board is in public universities in Ghana.To achieve this aim,the study developed four specific objectives.Additionally,the study adopted a descriptive research design and made use of a quantitative research approach in the collection and analysis of data.Using questionnaires,data were collected from a sample of 120 respondents who were selected using a purposive sampling method.The data collected were processed using SPSS version 21 and analysed using descriptive statistics The study revealed that there is a high level of commitment by the governing board to effective governance in the University of Ghana(UG),the University of Professional Studies(UPSA)and Accra Technical University.Also,there is a high level of effective governance structure and processes in the assessed public universities.Again,there is a high level of governing body membership at the assessed public universities.Finally,the study revealed that the governing body's commitment to organizational vision,culture and values is high at the examined public universities and recommended that the review should be from both internal and external sources to prevent favouritism and the deliberate concealment of wrongdoing...
