It is accepted that chemistry core literacy is an import part of students' qualities,chemistry knowledge is the basis of chemistry core literacy and that chemical symbols are the cornerstone of chemistry knowledge.Thus,it is very important to perform the cognitive study of chemical symbols because it can help students develop their chemistry core qualities,sense of values,necessary qualities and their capability to solve chemistry questions.Beginning with the study of chemical symbols,based on chemistry knowledge classification,the researcher makes a distinctive empirical research of chemical symbol cognition by making a literature review of the studies of chemistry knowledge classification and chemical symbol cognition and by performing teaching practice,theoretical analysis,concept definition,form analysis and practice test.The research agrees that:(1)The chemical symbol is a highly abstract and specialized language,a unique language for representing the chemistry discipline,a basic unit for expressing chemical knowledge,and a foundation for forming the core competence of chemistry.(2)Distinctive subject language,peculiar research methods and empirical chemical experiments are qualities of the chemistry subject.(3)Acting as a bridge between the macro-level and micro-level communication of chemical knowledge and representing the macro-representation and micro-meaning of chemical knowledge,chemical symbols can realize the interpretation and conversion between the "macro","micro" and "experience".(4)The cognition of chemical symbols is based on the classification of chemistry knowledge,and it is conducive to the cognition of chemical knowledge.(5)The cognition of chemical symbols is based on the classification of chemistry knowledge and it is necessary to classify chemistry knowledge in order to make a cognitive teaching of chemical symbols.The dissertation tries:(1)to produce a literature review of all studies on the classification of chemistry knowledge and the cognition of chemical symbols in China and abroad;(2)to make an explanation of related theories and core conceptions;(3)to examine the status quo of cognitive teaching of chemistry knowledge;(4)to make a theoretical analysis of chemistry knowledge forms and define qualities of the chemistry subject;(5)to make a classification and deconstruction of chemistry knowledge;(6)to design a practical l research on the cognitive teaching of chemical symbols;(7)to carry out a practical l research on the cognitive teaching of chemical symbols.Based on teaching practice,the researcher concludes that:(1)the cognitive mode based on the classification of chemistry knowledge benefits the cognition of chemistry knowledge.(2)The teaching program,including the understanding of preconceptions,the extracting of knowledge points,the defining of cognitive approaches and designing of teaching procedures,obeys the rules of chemistry knowledge cognition and can improve the students' cognition of chemistry knowledge.(3)The cognition of chemical symbols is based on the classification of chemistry knowledge and it is necessary to make a classification of chemistry knowledge so as to perform a cognitive teaching of chemical symbols.
