| The development in the fields of Internet and Information Technology has led to renewed extraordinary interest in electronic commerce in societies.E-commerce is a paradigm shift and a competitive tool for Small and Medium Enterprises(SMEs).This thesis aims to investigate the impact of the adoption of e-commerce on SMEs in Benin.This study is motivated by the fact that the adoption of e-commerce by SMEs,especially in developing countries is still far behind the adoption by large companies in developed countries.But to be able to survive in the new economic era,which is the information era,businesses in Benin including SMEs,are forced to adopt e-commerce.The non-adopters will be left behind by the adopters.The author has not only researched the development of e-commerce but also its importance to small and medium sized enterprises.It was considered appropriate to apply knowledge gained from review of literature to a primary research project of conducting an investigation on Benin SMEs that use e-commerce tools in their business functions.Combining both the literature review and investigation,it has been deduced that e-commerce is having an enormous impact on the way Benin SMEs conduct business,however they have been slow in implementing e-commerce. |
