An Influence Research Between Chinese Governmental Agenda And Foreign Media Agenda In Covering The Universal Two-child Policy | | Posted on:2019-10-05 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:C H Huang | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2428330548465717 | Subject:Journalism | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | China's population policy has always been the focus of the Western media.The One-Child policy as the mainstay of China's family planning policy has been criticized and doubted by the international society since its implementation.On October 29,2015,the fifth plenum of the 18 th Central Committee announced that China will fully implement the Universal Two-Child Policy,which means that China will end its 35-year-old One-Child Policy.The adjustment of the population policy immediately drew close attention from the western mainstream media.This article,with Universal TwoChild Policy as research object,attempts to study what attributes of the issues highlighted in the Chinese policy agenda and what attributes of the issues highlighted by the foreign media in reporting the new policy and then to study the interactive correlation on China's policy agenda and foreign media agenda.Content analysis,combined with quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis,is conducted in this research.The study found out that the planning e attributes highlighted in China's policy agenda include: the serious aging population,the willingness of Chinese people to accept the new policy,and the government actively guides the public to interpret the new policy and the guarantee of maternal and child health and family services so as to facilitate the success of the Two-Child Policy.While the attributes highlighted in the mainstream media are: serious population aging,Chinese people are not optimistic about the new policy,the negative impact left by the One-Child Policy can hardly be eliminated,and ineffectiveness of new policy as well as human rights.The study found that the Chinese government can set agendas for Western mainstream media on issues,but it shows discontinuity in the attribute setting agenda.That is,the Chinese government is successful in the setting of a certain attribute,but unable to set another attribute.The study also show that the Western media overall showed a negative trend in reporting the new policy,deepening western readers' prejudices on China's population policy and indirectly damaged China's national image;Most of the attributes featured in China's policy agenda are positive,maintaining the positive image of the new policy. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Universal two-child Policy, Policy agenda, Media addenda, Aging population, Family planning | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
