| As a typical type of conflict events, territorial dispute has always been the focus of international news coverage.Aiming to find the determinants of the international news coverage of China-related territorial dispute, the thesis introduces the perspective of the focal event and the context, takes Diaoyu Islands(Senkaku Islands in Japanese)dispute between China and Japan as an example, conducts a study on news coverage about three conflict events(referring to collision between Japanese patrol vessels and Chinese fishing trawler in waters near Diaoyu Islands on 9/7/2010,Japanese Cabinet's decision to nationalize the Diaoyu Islands on 9/10/2012 and China's establishment of an Air Defense Identification Zone on 11/23/2013)of the dispute.Through analysis of data by SPSS 22.0,it can not be proved that the victim country of violence in the China-related territorial dispute receives support from international news coverage;there is a positive correlation between political values proximity(one of the context factors)and difference of these news coverage;there is another positive correlation between policy proximity(one of the context factors)and difference of these news coverage;the hypothesis that the event initiator(another context factor)wins news coverage frames also fails.Hence,China needs to find more companion countries among the world that share the similar policies towards world affairs to win more support when facing territorial disputes and conflicts. The author hopes to make a small contribution to research related to international news coverage determinants. In terms of the defects in the design, the author will try to make improvements in future research. |
