Terrain is a most important and basic visual element in the three-dimensional virtual scene. Its realism greatly affects the user's experience in the three-dimensional virtual environment. In virtual scenes such as virtual reality, somatosensory AR games, film and television animation effects, and military exercise simulations, the topographic maps occupy a considerable proportion. It is not only time-consuming and laborious to manually edit the terrain of the mountains, but it is also difficult to guarantee the sense of reality. Therefore, how to use a computer to efficiently generate terrain that users can freely control and highly conform to the laws of nature is a challenge and urgent problem to be solved. There are many methods for generating traditional topographic maps, but there are some problems. For example, terrain map generation methods based on Brownian motion can not control the trend and related characteristics of the generated mountain. At the same time, the self-similarity of the classification also leads to the lack of natural laws for the resulting mountain. The physical erosion model can construct a mountain topography that is more in line with the natural law on the basis of the mountain generated by the classification method. However, this model generally requires a large number of parameters to control the generated topographic map,and the efficiency is not high. Then the method of generating texture matching based on topographic maps solves the problem of efficiency. However, this method relies too much on the existing real-mountain terrain database, and it is prone to the problem of missing matching results. In response to the above problems, this paper proposes a new type of topographic map generation method. This method uses image texture synthesis and transformation as the core algorithm, and guides the synthetic process with the help of hand-painted ridge lines and reference topographic maps. Finally,it can simply and effectively generate mountain terrain with controlled features.Firstly, according to the techniques of texture synthesis and transformation, the paper redefined the topographic map generation problem. The mathematical model used to express this problem is constructed by definition. Then,a detailed study was made on the reference topographic maps and the hand-drawn ridgeline maps, and the basic features used to represent the topographic maps were constructed according to the spatial distribution of the maps. Then according to the needs of the model, the relevant feature information is counted, and the topographic map generation process is completed using the feature information and the texture synthesis and conversion algorithm. Finally, the paper uses this method to carry out a large number of experiments in different areas of different styles. At the same time, the three-dimensional rendering of the mountain terrain map obtained is performed. From the analysis of the experimental results,we can see that the proposed method has the following advantages:the user can control the general trend of the terrain by using a simple ridgeline plot. The overall geomorphological features of the terrain can be controlled by referring to the selected region of the map.According to the same Ridge ridge map, this method can generate terrain maps such as Qinling,Guilin and other regional features. To sum up,the proposed method can generate topographic maps whose terrain features can be freely controlled, and has a strong sense of reality, which can be easily applied to the topography of virtual scenes.
