Internet,as a commutative tool to connect the world,lets people get the latest information of the other side of the earth indoors and get closer with people from other countries.So far,15 percent of people all over the world are disabled people,which means there're at least 110 million people in the world cannot live the same life as normal people in a certain level.According to the Web Accessibility Standard of World Wide Web Consortium,all Internet users share the equal rights to use the Internet no matter who they are.However,the traditional web browsers use mouse and keyboard as input,which stops disabled people who cannot use their hands freely from accessing knowledge and news at any time and any place.Luckily,eyes and voice can help disabled people as special inputs.As the blooming research of eye tracking and voice recognition,more and more people are putting attention on these modalities.GazeTheWeb(GTW)browser is a special browser which only uses eye tracker as input to emulate.However,the eye tracking covers an area rather than a point,and it takes users some time to target the goal.This leads to more mental demands and cognitive workload of eyes when reading websites.Currently there is no browser with two modalities for special needs,therefore,we propose an innovated browser based on GTW and integrated eye tracking and voice commands,called HandsFree browser.The aim of the new browser is better user experience and usability,less workload and demands.Before integration,there were two experiments between GTW and HFC conducted to compare the efficiency and usability.The result shows compared to HFC,GTW takes more time on text input and link navigation but higher accuracy.The integration of two modalities allows people not only to use eyes and voice independently,but also to combine them to click links.The improved browser reduces the usage time of GTW to 5 times and increases the ratings of usability.All participants gave positive feedbacks of voice commands,that proves the successfully integration of multi-modalities in browser.HandsFree browser not only delights the future of disabled people,but also provides theoretical and practical research reference in human-computer interaction.
