Direct Measurement On Interdisciplinary Degree

At present,with the progress of the times and the development of science and technology,the trend of interdisciplinary integration is becoming increasingly conspicuous,and the knowledge exchange between different disciplines is more and more frequent.It needs more and more collaborative innovation of scholars from different disciplines.Accordingly,how to measure interdisciplinary degree becomes an important research task.Therefore,the construction of interdisciplinary degree measurement model is particularly important for determining the independence of disciplines and clarifying the relationship between different disciplines.Based on the current research situation at home and abroad,this paper discusses the basic issues of the construction of interdisciplinary model,including the classification of discipline system,definition,methodology and existing models of interdisciplinary,and then reconstructs the direct measurement model of interdisciplinary from three perspectives,which are "direct citation","bibliographic coupling",and "co-keyword".In order to integrate these three aspects more reasonably,we invited five experts in the field of scienctometrics to assign the weights of these three aspects for two rounds,and then got the new interdisciplinary direct measurement model constructed in this paper.Taking the crossdisciplinary data of Information Science & Library Science and Computer Science-Information system,Management,Biochemistry and Molecular Biology,Applied Mathematics,Applied Psychology and Economics in Web of Science database as an example,this paper makes an empirical study.In addition,based on the results of the model,this paper also conducts two rounds of comparative studies from both internal and external perspectives:(1)internal comparison refers to the comparison between the comprehensive model and the single index model;(2)external comparison refers to the comparison with the current mainstream index model.Mainstream models include specialization index,Brillouin index(also known as entropy of information),import/export index,Cosine index,Simpson index,Rao-stirling index,Salton coefficient and Integrated Diversity index.This paper still chooses the data of 2017 from seven disciplines,such as Information Science & Library Science and Computer Science-Information System,which is also in Web of Science database as the original data of comparative analysis process.The results of comparative analysis announce that the model proposed in this study has certain advantages over the traditional model of interdisciplinary degree.Frist,the model is simplicity.It can directly measure the similarity between the two disciplines without building complex similarity matrix,and it is easy to calculate.Second,the model is fictitious.From the analysis results of the interdisciplinary degree of Information Science & Library Science and other six disciplines,the model proposed in this paper can objectively reflect the relationship between them,which coincides with the existing research of other scholars.Third,the distinction is strong and reasonable.In the model comparison,we can clearly see the degree of alienation between information science & Library Science and other six disciplines,and it is easy to distinguish.Fourth,the results are easier to understand.The calculated value of our model is between [0-1],which is easy to understand.
