Since the 21 st century, the themes of the Republic of China have been popular in the book market, and gradually set off a "Republic of China fever",which lasted for more than ten years.Bestsellers can be called the epitome of the spiritual needs of an era,as each era has its own reading preference. From the perspective of bestsellers, the publishing history of the Republic of China can not only reveal people's reading needs and social mentality in the period of the Republic of China, but also comprehensively reflect the political, cultural, economic, academic and aesthetic demands at that time.In contrast to the current best sellers list,it can also give an objective explanation of how the popularity of the Republic of China lasted, which is also of reference significance for the research of current best sellers. The period 1927-1937 is the second stage of modern Chinese literature. It has a special position, bearing on the May 4th New Culture Movement, the Anti-Japanese War and the national civil war. This paper intends to explore the changing course of mass reading interest in the decade of 1927-1937 by combing the emerging literature bestsellers and combining the research methods of publishing history, literature history, communication and marketing. The main force of bestsellers in this period was the old school novels, represented by Zhang Henshui's social romance novels and the martial arts novels of Xiang Kairan, which occupied the largest market share in the bestseller market. As a rising star, the new literature novel has become a new force and flourished in the best-selling book market: there are a kind of best-selling novels, such as Lu Xun,Mao Dun,Ba Jin,etc, whose novels express the anxiety of the nation;there are the popular novels of "revolution + love" represented by Jiang Guangci;there are also "Shanghai school" best-selling novels, written by Zhang Ziping and Mu Shiying, which reflect the life of modern citizens. In addition to novels, prose has also emerged in the bestseller market and become the reserve force. Most of them have experienced the time washing and become classic works in the history of modern literature. On the basis of these bestsellers, this paper analyzes the characteristics of bestsellers in this period from three aspects: bestsellers, authors of bestsellers, and their publishers. At that time,it gives comments. On the one hand, the best-selling books of the "1930s" compromise to commercialization and go to kitsch;on the other hand, they become propaganda tools of politics. Both of them make the best sellers hard to escape the fate of unsalable. Some of the best-selling novels are new literary classics and some of them are essays. The common connotation of these works lies in the writer's insistence on culture in his heart. They have inherited the humanitarianism spirit since the May 4th movement, and they respect literature as the highest in their heart.Their creation is not entirely for the pursuit of fame and wealth, but also for keeping a distance from politics. After being praised as "classics",with the help of essays The system of learning and education has been sold for a long time. The conclusion is that the vulgarization and commercialization of literature can only make the works sell well for a while, and the cultural connotation in the works is the real support for the works from selling well to long-term selling.
