Polyzwitterions represent a subclass of polyelectrolytes featuring in special properties. They possess both anion and cation groups on the macromolecular main chain, and even in the same monomer unit. The adjacent positive and negative at the main chain are covalently connected, forming a permanent dipole. The condensing of the dipoles makes the polymer insoluble in pure water, while with the increasing ions concentration, the polymer chains expand, the hydrodynamic volumes increase, the solubility increase and the intrinsic viscosity of the solution increases, which is termed as anti-polyelectrolyte effect.Nowadays it has been attractive to academic and industrial researchers that the zwitterionic polymers represent excellent anti-fouling properties to resist nonspecific protein adsorption, which can find a variety of applications in biomaterials and marine anti-adhesion.In order to obtain a further understanding of the anti-adhesion or adhesion mechanism from a molecular view,we use varieties of optical, mechanical and electrical methods to study the relationship between the structures and properties of two series of coating materials, namely the anti-adhesive phosphorylcholine polyzwitterions and adhesive microscope slides with silane counpling agent. In Chapter 2,the copolymer of 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine(MPC)and stearyl methacrylate(SMA)have been synthesized with adjustable monomer ratios,so that the ratio of the hydrophobic and hydrophilic segments is controlled in the bulk of the copolymer(PMS).The monomer ratios have been confirmed with the 1H NMR spectroscopy and the molecular weights have been characterized by static light scattering(SLS).The hydrophilicity and mechanical properties of the PMSs coatings on silicon wafer have been detected and correlated with the ratios of the zwitterionic monomers. The complexation of the PMS82 and human albumin has been detected via Zetasizer in aqueous solutions with pH about 5,at which PMS bears negative charges while albumin is positive charged. In Chapter 3,the adhesion mechanism has been studied by comparing the structure and properties of the two commercial microscope slides, common and silane treated respectively. The results from contact angle and the dielectric spectroscopy show disagreement. The methods and the media shall be carefully chosen for the characterization,in full consideration of the working condition of the slides.
