Acrylate latex has been widely used as a film-forming material in waterborne coatings for its excellent weather resistance,film-forming property,flexibility and environment friendly.However,the acrylate polymer is an inflammable material,which can be a great potential hazard in our life.Therefore flame retardancy of the acrylate coating is highly desired.In order to endow the acrylate coating with flame retardancy,flame retardants is a commonly blended with the acrylate coatings.However,this method usually requires quite large additive amount,which has negative effect on the mechanical properties and appearance.Hence,It is of great significance to study acrylate latex with flame-retardant property on the main body.In view of the problems of acrylic resin,two new phosphorus-containing vinyl monomers BPOD-AC and BPOD-HEMA were synthesized.The synthesis conditions were explored and studied,and then BPOD-AC,BPOD-HEMA or the commercial phosphorus-containing monomer DEMP was emulsion-polymerized with methyl methacrylate and butyl acrylate.The flame retardant properties of the copolymer latex film have been investigated separately.The specific work carried out is as follows:?1?Phosphorus-containing vinyl flame retardant monomer BPOD-HEMA was synthesized by using phenylphosphoryl dichloride?BPOD?and hydroxyethyl methacrylate?HEMA?as reaction materials.The optimal condition s for synthesis were:n?BPOD?:n?HEMA?=1:3.5,the solvent was diethyl ether,the magnetic stirrin g speed was 500 r/min,the HEMA solution started to drop at low temperature,and after the addition being completed,it was heated to 30?for reflux,the reaction time was 12h,the yield It was 85.08%.The BPOD-AC was characterized by FT-IR,elemental analysis,1H NMR and 31P NMR.It was proved that the synthesized sample was the target product BPOD-AC.The thermal properties were characterized by TGA.The results shown that BPOD-HEMA had good.thermal stability and excellent carbon forming ability.?2?Phosphorus-nitrogen-containing vinyl flame retardant monomer BPOD-AC was synthesized by using phenylphosphoryl dichloride?BPOD?and acrylamide?AC?as raw materials.The optimal conditions for synthesis were as follows:n?BPOD?:n?AC?=1:2.3,the solvent waschloroform,the magnetic stirring speed was 500 r/min.the AC solution started to drop at low temperature,the dropping time was 2h,after the addition being completed,it was heated to 50?for reflux,the reaction time was 10h,the yield was83.35%.The BPOD-AC was characterized by FT-IR,elemental analysis,1H NMR and31P NMR.It was proved that the synthesized sample was the target product BPOD-AC.The thermal properties were characterized by TGA.The results shown that BPOD-AC had good thermal stability and high residual carbon.?3?A flame retardant acrylic latex was synthesized by emulsion polymerization using phosphorus-containing monomers BPOD-AC,BPOD-HEMA,DEMP and and butyl acrylate?BA?and methyl methacrylate?MMA?as co-monomers and the results shown that the addition of commercial phosphorus-containing vinyl monomer DEMP has a certain inhibitory effect on the reduction of pHRR and THR of acrylic resin.Tthermogravimetric?TG?test shown that carbon residue at 600°C of BPOD-HEMA modified acrylic resin increased by 14%,and the values of pHRR and THR decreased by 26.2%and 35.6%,respectively,compared with blank acrylic resin.When the amount of monomer of BPOD-AC was 14%,the limiting oxygen index?LOI?could reach 22.6%,and the pHRR and THR of flame retardant acrylic resin was reduced by 28.5%and41.3%,respectively,compared to the pure acrylic resin.
