A new type of low penetration projectile is designed in this paper,the projectile is mainly used for anti-terrorism,riot and other major emergencies.By improving the structure of 5.8mm projectile body,the projectile has good penetration characteristics,to achieve the goal of hitting the target at a short distance or at a distance,it will not cause penetration,and avoid the accident that the projectile penetrates criminals and injure the masses.Aiming at the penetration characteristics of low penetration projectile,It mainly carries on three aspects analysis and research in this paper.One is to simulate the penetration process of projectile by numerical simulation,and the other is to verify the low penetration performance of projectile by using target test.Finally,the low penetration characteristics of projectile are analyzed by theoretical analysis.The main work includes the following aspects:(1)Three penetration modes of low penetration projectiles are introduced,and analyse these modes’ mechanism and application,then illustrate the theoretical basis of the new type of low penetration projectile designed in this paper.(2)The structure of the standard 5.8mm projectile is improved,and put forward two different projectile structures—rectangular groove shrapnel and circular groove shrapnel.The simulation of projectile penetrating the water medium is carried out,and the velocity curve and penetration depth curve of the bullet are obtained.Through comparison and analysis,the structure of rectangular groove shrapnel has better characteristics of low penetration.Aiming at the rectangular groove shrapnel,the structure has been optimized.The influence of the length and depth of the groove on the low penetration performance of the shrapnel is obtained by the simulation of different structural projectiles.When the length of the shrapnel groove is 1.6mm and the depth is 15.5mm,it has the best low penetration characteristics.The simulation of the shrapnel penetrating the water medium at different velocity is carried out.The deformation degree of the projectile warhead is mainly influence the low penetration characteristics of the bullet.(3)The experimental research on rectangular groove shrapnel,circular groove shrapnel and standard projectile have been taken.The tests of the projectile penetrating the water tank and the penetration of the projectile into the tank at different incidence speed are carried out.The experimental results are in agreement with the simulation results,which proves that the simulation results are reliable.The experimental research on shrapnel and projectile into soap target is carried out.By measuring the depth of penetration and the degree of destruction in target,it is proved that the projectile has good low penetration characteristics and energy transmission.The experiments of different structure shrapnel penetrating into the gelatin block under different speed intervals are carried out.The effect of the length and depth of the projectile head grooves on the shrapnel’s low penetration characteristics are verified by numerical simulation,and the experimental results are basically consistent with those obtained by simulation.(4)The theory of low penetration projectile is studied.The motion model of gelatin cavity and the resistance model of projectile penetrating gelatin are obtained,and the results are compared with the experimental results.The results show that the curve of the cavity motion model is in agreement with the experimental results,and the motion model of the projectile can describe the movement process of the blooming projectile more accurately.
