Objective:Osteoarthritis(OA)is a type of chronic disease involving joints with high incidence, which significantly affects the limb function of patients and reduces the quality of life. The prevalence of OA is expected to increase year by year, which will put heavy pressure on the world economy and health care resources. To study the effects of curcumin on Wnt signaling pathway in articular cartilage of rat osteoarthritis model. Methods:Thirty SD rats of 2 months old were randomly divided into 3 groups:blank group(group A),model group(group B),control group(group C).group B and C were modeled using modified Hulth methods to establish an KOA model.after 4 weeks, group C was given intragastric administration of curcumin for 4 weeks.group B was given the same amount of normal saline;group A was not treated specially.Articular cartilage tissues of knee joints of each group were extracted and scored with reference to Mankin's scoring criteria. The content of ?-catenin protein in cartilage tissue was detected by ELISE.Results:Hematoxylin-eosin staining and toluidine blue staining results showed that the Mankin's score of articular cartilage in the model group was higher than that in the blank group and the control group(P<0.05,P<0.05).The content of ?-catenin protein in cartilage tissue was significantly higher than that of the blank group and the control group(P<0.05,P<0.05).Conclusions:Curcumin could improve the the repair of injury articular cartilages in rat KOA model by regulating the ?-catenin protein in Wnt/ ?-catenin signaling pathway.
