Mezzotint originated from the Netherlands in the 17th century.Because of its unique techniques of expression,Mezzotint soon became widespread in Europe, leaving many great works. In the 19th century, however, the skills of Mezzotint disappeared suddenly, and almost nobody could master the techniques any more.Until the early 20th century,Hasegawa Kit,a Japanese living in France used her unique aesthetic appreciation as an Eastern artist, realized the continuation of these techniques through her long-term efforts.Perhaps the color“black”contains peculiar emotions of easterners, suggesting a symbol of the spiritual world as well as the particular understanding of the beauty of the color itself. Its thick,velvet-like black background, together with delicate changes of the medium tones brought about by the scraping of copper scraper, tallied with the oriental temperament precisely, and always gave people a sense of thoroughly fine. There are five parts in this article.Part one introduces the brief history of development of Mezzotint, focusing on the contribution of Hasegawa Kit and Yozo Hamaguchi after the“disappearance" of it in the 19th century.Part two analyzes the connection between Mezzotint works by Hasegawa Kit and Yozo Hamaguchi and the oriental aesthetic appreciation, and the underlying causes behind the connection.Part three discusses the implication of the techniques in the context of the west world, and the intrinsic link between China' s "five sub-colors of ink" and the black and white changes in Mezzotint works. Also in this part, there are some reflections on how to seek collision,in the present art environment,of classical western techniques and traditional Chinese aesthetic appreciation of painting.Part four elaborates,by combining the author's thoughts on artistic creation in daily life from a realistic perspective, the impact of traditional Chinese culture on the author' s artistic creation, including the intrinsic connections mentioned above as well as the existence of contradictions.Part five is the conclusion, putting forward the question that, whether the present phenomenon of "mestizo art"or "mestizo culture" in China will continue without any restraint?...
