Contemporary Painting Research Using Repetition As A Means Of Expression

Artists have different feelings about the artistic expression of repetition.Gombrich,an art historian,argues that repetition makes us ignore individuals and incorporate them into larger patterns.Li Xianting,the critic,argues that repeated movements in art are similar to repeated fluctuations in Buddhist meditation.Critic Wang Minan thinks repetition is creative.Repeat the process of artistic creation in Gao Minglu is similar to Zen.I found in the research process:getting rid of the effect is repeated;deconstruction and reconstruction in artistic creation is one of the greatest value to repeat as a way of expression of works of art;repetition is also a kind of spirit roaming state.In this paper,we use the method of case and theory as the clue to the artistic comment on the repetition as a way of expression,doing research about the paintings of Ding Yi,Lv Shengzhong,and Kusama as well as its corresponding theory.From the three perspectives of the artist,critic and aesthetic theory analysis on"repeatability" as three different styles of contemporary painting expression analysis,I try to sort out their common point,hoping to guide my artistic creation by all those efforts.
