Located in Dangtu(Anhui Province),"Tianzi Tomb" is a tomb of Kingdom Wu(AD 229-AD 280)during the Three Kingdom Period with a brick chamber that is 13.9 meters long and 8.5 meters wide.As a large tomb of Kingdom Wu discovered by archaeological excavation,it seconds only to Shangfang Tomb discovered in Nanjing.Tianzi Tomb mainly consists of the ditch earth mound, slope passage, brick chamber, and drain,of which ditch is the first archaeological discovery among the tombs of its time.Phenomena on the slope passage suggest that Tianzi Tomb was excavated twice in history. The brick chamber is made up of sealing wall, tomb door, retaining wall, corridor, front chamber where there are two wing rooms symmetrically distributed at both sides, aisle and rear chamber, etc. Both the front and rear chambers take a shape of dome structure with an arc in each of the four corners. There are vaulted ceilings above the corridor, the aisle between front and rear chambers, and the wing rooms. The front chamber is covered by a stone, with four convers inlaid with animal heads. At the backside of the bottom of the tomb lies a brick sacrificial altar. There is an outlet at the backside of west wing room and a brick shrine base at the backside of east wing room.It can be inferred that Tianzi Tomb was built in the Yongan Era 4 of Kingdom Wu(AD 261)according to the tomb brick that is engraved with "Yongan Era 4" and vermilion characters "Yongan Era 3”on the lacquer surface.Analysis of scale, shape and structure and part of typical burial objects of "Tianzi Tomb" suggests that this tomb should be tomb burying a husband and his wife who were prominent with a title of at least a marquis. But it is unlikely that the tomb master is Sun Xiu,i.e.Emperor Jing of Kingdom Wu,as described by historical records since the Song Dynasty(AD 960—AD 1279),instead there is a much greater likelihood that he is a member of the imperial clan or a senior high-ranking official close to Sun Xiu.
