Research On Zhang Shunmin's Poetry

Zhang Shunmin,whose courtesy name was Yun Sou and born in Fenzhou(nowadays Shanxi Bin County),was a great scholar in the post intermediate stage of Northern Song Dynasty.He was accomplished in literature.He had a closed relationship with the great men of letters Wang Anshi,Su Shi and Su Zhe.In politics,he had done his conscientious duty thus was praised by his Party’s leader Si Maguang.After Wang Anshi’s reform,the Northern Song dynasty had a lot of ups and downs,which caused him to be squeezed out while the New Party was in power.However,his noble character had a significant influence to the society.In addition,he was exalted by the people at that time.There were 256 poems remained till now,which were vivid reflections of Zhang’s ideologies and personal experiences,as well as the broad social pictures.These poems are based on a wide range of materials,including his expression of political ideas,his lament about political frustration,his nostalgia for mountains and rivers,and the outpouring of his sincere feelings.His poems show some typical characteristics of Song-Ci as well as a limited choice of Tang-poetry.That is using the method of Tang-poetry to rectify Song-Ci.Though not every poetry conforms to this method,he indeed has formed his own unique artistic style,which has an imperceptible drive to the development of SONG-Ci.This paper mainly focuses on Zhang Shunmin’s poetry works.Through an in-depth analysis of his works,the authors tries to restore the historical figure vividly,and gives a fair evaluation of his poetic status.This paper consists of three major parts: introduction,body,and conclusion.The introduction part mainly illustrates the significance of Zhang’s poetry and sorts out the current state of research.In view of the fact that there are a few studies about Zhang Shunmin’s work,the author also puts forward some concrete research ideas and methods at the end of the introduction.Based on Zhang Shunmin’s poetry and the relevant books,the main body of this paper makes a systematic and comprehensive discussion of his poetry,which is divided into the following parts:The first chapter introduces the foundation of the creation of Zhang Shunmin’s poetry,including introducing the social form of Zhang’s times,combing his official careers and literary proposition from the perspective of politics and literature,as well as grasping Zhang’s creative motivation and ideological trend in an all-round way.The second chapter mainly interprets the subjects and contents of Zhang Shunmin’s poetry.In this part,the author divides and summarizes Zhang Shunmin’s poetry from the perspective of the subjects,including lyric poetry,eulogistic poetry and mourning poetry.And through the exemplification of the typical examples,the author tries to deliberate and analyze the ideological connotation of Zhang Shunmin’s poetry in various aspects.The third chapter summarizes the artistic features of Zhang Shunmin’s poetry.Based on Zhang Yumin’s poetry,this article analyzes the ways of expression,artistic conceptions,structures and language style in detail.The author also summarizes the styles displayed in the poems.The fourth chapter analyses the artistic origins and values of Zhang Shunmin’s poetry.On the basis of the previous article,this paper analyzes that Zhang Shunmin’s poetry not only has its own active absorption of other people’s achievements,but also is passively affected by the ethos of the times.And then this paper summarizes the values of his poems in the context of that time.The conclusion part summarizes the full context.This part places Zhang Shunmin’s poetry into the overall development of poetry in the Northern Song Dynasty,and then gives a fair assessment of his poetic position.
