An Analysis Of The Composition And Color Features Of Huang Gongwang's "Tianchi Stone Wall"

Chinese landscape painting has undergone a great change in the Yuan Dynasty.The talented artist Zhao Mengfu put forward the famous view of "painting is precious with ancient meanings" and realized the backwash of the delicate style of the court of painting of Southern Song Dynasty,which went into a new period of "Spiritual expression".This new style began with Zhao Mengfu and was fully achieved by “the top four painters in Yuan”.Huang Gongwang,the eldest and greatest of the four,became a key to open a new style of painting with his "unparalleled talent" and excellent painting skills.He was revered as the top of the top four and had deep influence upon later landscape painting with high status in painting history.Huang Gongwang's works are varied.Though common in aspect,but each have its own characteristics.The in-depth study and learning of each piece of work is of great help in understanding Huang Gongwang's artistic thinking and creative methods,as well as inspiring our creation.The "Fuchun Mountains" was most frequently studied among all works of Huang Gongwang.Others was discussed but not often in a more systematic way.The author believe that there are two categories of Huang Gongwang's works: the ink and light crimson."Tianchi Stone Wall Map" is undoubtedly the representation of the second category,which reflects Huang Gongwang's artistic characteristics and originality.This paper attempts to analyze the characteristics and originality of composition and color of this piece of work,its causes and its impact on contemporary and later generations of landscape painting.In these three aspects,the importance of this work in the history of landscape painting and the inspiration for us in the creation of landscape painting is fully revealed which is the main starting point and purpose of this paper.
