Ritual In Three Dimensions: Research On The Stylistic Theory Of "Wen Xin Diao Long"

The ritual system of pre-Qin was an important reason for emerging the ancient Chinese stylistics,the ritual-musical civilization of Zhou dynasty was the soil of he embryo and evolution of the ancient Chinese stylistics,producing the emergence of the early literary style concept and providing rich" Spiritual Nourishment".The spirit of "propriety" is one of the core concept of the theory of the ancient Chinese stylistics,which has an important influence on the later stylistics.The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons is one of the greatest works in the field of the ancient literary theories and Liu Xie’s theory of stylistics also inherited the ritual-musical spirit of Zhou dynasty and was affected greatly by the ritual-musical civilization,which was a kind of pioneering and mature stylistics theory.The differentiation of the ritual system of pre-Qin promoted the early simple concept of classification of stylistics,which influenced the stylistic classification of The Literary Mind and the Carving of Dragons and the methodology of studying Liu Xie’s theory of stylistics directly and deeply through the thought of Humanistic Pragmatism.The basic ideas of The Literary Mind and Carving of Dragons were the Confucianism and Humanistic Pragmatism and they reflected the ritual-musical spirit exactly.On one hand,the Rites of Zhou was the source of the formation of many ceremonial article styles.On the other hand,the stylistic criticism which was oriented by Humanistic Pragmatism also made explicit demands on the stylistic features.On the basis of this,Liu Xie emphasized the principle of "propriety" and" elegance" when discussing the writing of the article from four aspects:emotions,meaning,words and ancient Chinese music.In a nutshell,The Literary Mind and Carving of the Dragons stylistics established the system of the article with the "propriety" under the influence of the Rites of Zhou and its spirit of rites and music,trying to build up the system and criterion of the "elegance" criticism for the whole literary.Its ultimate aim was to realize the great significance of Humanistic Pragmatism by means of taking "article"as the teaching method.
