Critical Practice Research On The New Criticism Of Britain And The United States

Anglo-American New criticism is not only an impressive link in the development of western formalism literary theory in the 20th century,but also a chief part of western modern literary theory.Began separatly in the 1920s and 1930s in the United Kingdom and the United States,Anglo-American New criticism reached its peak in the 1940s,and soon declined in the 1960s.This school,mainly focusing on criticism,had numerous scholars as well as enormous and disorderly theories.The critics has been divided into three generations,the representative figures of the first generation mainly were Eliot and Ricardo,while the second generation were Empson,Huiter,Brooks,Warren etc.,the third generation was represented by critics like Wimsate,Weller etc..Some of their theoretical views are in conflict with each other,but they held the same views on the main theoretical points:literary essence,literary composition,and literary language.In the 20th century,the emergence of critical theory developed and translated criticism,leading to a beginning of criticism showing distinction from the literary criticism in the traditional sense.The concept of "critical practice" was set by analyzing the connotation of traditional literary criticism and 20th century literary criticism,critical theory and theoretical criticism,critical theory and critical practice,this paper defines and analyzes.The critical practice in the 20th century was literary criticism,which was mainly based on theoretical criticism,supplemented by practical criticism or practical criticism,and was the practice of critical theory.Its purpose was to verify and explain the theory.The new criticism of Anglo-American criticism of the significance and value of the objective analysis of the practice,it did in the application of the theory,literary criticism of professionalism and scientific aspects of great contributions,for it was integrated with the criticism practice of three generations of critics of the new criticism school,mainly taken poetry works as an example,to review the criticism practice of the new criticism.The final part is the reflection and evaluation of new critical practice.The article discusses the moderate problem of critical practice,the scientific problem of critical practice and the practical problem of critical practice.In addition,I will discuss the significance of critical practice to China's critical practice.
