A Comparative Rhetoric Study In "Hulan River Biography"

The antithesis rhetoric is a common rhetorical device,and it is one of the ways for humans to understand the world.The antithesis rhetoric is based on psychological association,grasping and utilizing the different points of different things to contrast,so as to understand the essence of things.The antithesis rhetoric is mapped in the expression level of human language,and it is a figure of rhetoric formed by using the semantic relations in language.According to the existing research,Firstly,the academic circle focuses on the substantive research of common antithesis,such as metaphor and pun,and seldom involves the internal operation,cognitive mechanism and causes of the antithesis rhetoric..Secondly,the research is limited to the rhetoric field,and there are defects in the definition and classification of the antithesis rhetoric.Thirdly,most of the researches on antithesis rhetoric are simply described,which of them rarely involve the internal operation of rhetoric,cognitive mechanisms and reasons.In order to achieve a full explanation,the study of antithesis rhetorical figures should be carefully observed and described by a large number of corpuses.There are more than 130 examples of antithesis rhetoric used in the Tales of Hulan River.The author uses the antithesis rhetorical of the Tales of Hulan River as a corpus.The author uses semantic field theory to interpret the antithesis rhetoric from the perspective of semantics,rhetoric and cognitive linguistics.This paper makes the semantics and cognitive analysis of the rhetoric and analyzes the characteristics,reasons,and functions of the antithesis rhetoric of the Tales of Hulan River.It aims at fully describing the antithesis rhetoric from the form of language expression and fully explaining it.The paper includes five chapters:The first chapter is the Introduction,including topic source,research idea,the former researches,existing problems,research significance,source of corpus,research object,research methods and innovative points.And then the Antithesis rhetoric is redefined as well as the conditions that should be available to the Antithesis rhetoric is described.To clarify the scope of our study,we will distinguish it from comparisons,duality,etc.In Chapter two,Firstly,on the basis of definition of Antithesis rhetoric,we use the ternary and the formula code method to study the internal structure of the Antithesis rhetoric.Secondly,we uses the method of statistics induction to classify the Antithesis rhetoric of The Tale of Hulan River,and study the basic operation of each type in the formula.The difference among the Antithesis types mainly depends on the semantic relationship between leader A and follower B.That is to say,the relationship is regarded as between R_A and R_B.The semantic relationship between R_A and R_B can be divided into antisense relationship,ratio difference relationship,complementary relationship,and contradiction relationship.The relationship between R_A and R_B,corresponds to this type of Antithesis the pair of contrast Antithesis,differential Antithesis,complementary Antithesis,contradictory Antithesis.In Chapter 3,firstly,we discusse the characteristics of the Antithesis rhetoric of The Tale of Hulan River:1)The Antithesis rhetoric has diversification of contents;2)The Antithesis rhetoric has ironic character;3)Implicitness of contrast items;4)The semantic description of comparison items is plain and easy to understand.Secondly,we explain various types of the Antithesis rhetoric by the semantic field theory,and then analyzes the generative mechanism of the Antithesis rhetoric.Finally,cognitive linguistics and psychology are used to explore the cognition of the Antithesis rhetoric and to compare them with the cognition of metaphor,and the differences in cognitive thinking between two different figures of the rhetoric are obtained.Chapter 4,I explore the reason's for the formation of the Antithesis rhetoric of The Tale of Hulan River,with the help of the language factor and the non-language factor.this paper elaborates the expression function,aesthetic function and discourse function of the control of The Tale of Hulan River from the view of functional role of the Antithesis rhetoric.The conclusion summarizes the research achievements and shortcomings of this paper.
