As a Korean student, who has been studying Chinese as well as Chinese traditional art for many years,I especially adore the landscape. That is the reason why I chose to compare Chinese landscape painting to Korean one in 18 th century. In the process of the research,I combined my 12-meter-long painting Copy of Rivers and Mountains without End and the study together. Therefore I could embody the essence of Chinese traditional landscape. The purpose of this study is to identify the main theme and background information of the Korean painter Yi Inmun(1745-1824)and his masterpiece Rivers and Mountains without End.He was one of the well-known artists in the Renaissance of Korea in 18 th century. In 2014,his masterpiece took back its glory at National Museum of Korea. The art critics and audience have falling in love with it.It is not only the representative work of the post landscape painting, but also the work has had an important bearing on the development of Korean landscape painting. To identify the position of his painting in Korean history of art,the study has been conducted to find the connection between his painting technique and Chinese traditional painting. To understand the spirit of the painter and his painting Rivers and Mountains without End,I have completed my own version of Copy of Rivers and Mountains without End by Jinsuk Paik.Confucius said,“Gaining new insights through reviewing the old.” The artists in 21 st century are strongly interested in how to innovate the work of art.I'd like to find the answer from the teachings of Confucius. There is an old saying,“It is of great significance to one who studies the traditional cultures and reflects with the problems at the present.”Yi Inmun had studied the Chinese traditional painting so that he could reflect the cultural phenomenon of that time.By completing of Copy of Rivers and Mountains without End,I have been gaining new insights for the ideal direction of creation.
