Positive Discourse Analysis Of The Reality Show "Super Speaker"

This thesis is a positive discourse analysis(PDA)of the speeches in the reality show Super Speaker.The materials of the research are totally 15 speeches selected from the 15 periods of the second season(2014)of this TV show.The appraisal theory is developed on the basis of the research on interpersonal function of traditional Systematic Functional Linguistics.It focuses on how speakers set their attitudes and positions in discourse.It is the main theoretical basis for positive discourse analysis.It is a new theoretical framework for the study of appraisal resources in the discourse.And it is also an extension and complement of the interpersonal meta-function in systemic functional grammar proposed by Halliday.Positive discourse analysis tends to deal with various social conflicts with a positive attitude,hoping to establish a harmonious society through discourse analysis.It is the improvement and expansion of critical discourse analysis.The author analyzes the selected corpus from three appraisal resources.They are attitude,engagement and graduation.This paper explores how to state your position,opinions,and attitudes in your speech.Thus it try to explain the social significance of positive discourse analysis,with a view to providing some reference for people to make speeches successfully in the future.
