The opera "Carmen" is a romantic period opera composed by Bizet,the French composer.It's adapted from the novel of Merimee,a French writer's novel which has the same name.It consists of four acts and was completed in the autumn of 1874.The entire opera has ups and downs,and its characters are prominent.It is the highest performing opera in the world today.In the play,the Romany women whose name was Carmen,was rebellious and passionate.During her work at the tobacco factory,she fell in love with the soldier Don Jose and set a trap for him step by step.After Don Jose abandoned his fiancee Micaela,he fell in love with Carmen.Don Jose was arrested and jailed for releasing Carmen from a fight in the tobacco factory.After he was released from the prison,he took part in smugglers,and gave himself up as hopeless.However,Carmen fell in love with Escarmio who was a matador.When Carmen was cheering for the victory of Escarmio,she died under the sword of Don Jose.This article can be divided into three parts.The first part expounds the important role of character characteristics in Opera theoretically,and analyzes the creative methods of character characteristics in music based on Opera fragments.The second part introduces the background of the opera "Carmen" and focuses on analyzing the characteristics of Carmen in the play.The third part analyzes the aria "Love is like a naughty bird","Next to the old wall of Seville","How wonderful to hear the bell" and "This is futile" from two aspects of music creation and singing requirements.
