In the mid-twentieth century,American society appeared as a "Beat Generation" represented by Jack Kerouac,Allen Ginsberg,and William Burroughs.They lived wildly and rebelliously.The pioneering movement of the Beats has had a profound impact on the history and culture of the United States.This article intends to use "crisis" and "breakout" as the key words,"spiritual struggle" as the main clue,and use its literary creation as an important evidence to try to explore the whole "Beat Generation".This is not only to find common spiritual appeals for the popular Americans and even the world after the Second World War,but also for the texts with rich emotional experiences,to find explanations other than "curious and rebellious society" and "disregarding the road."Therefore,in the introduction,the thesis first clarifies the misunderstanding of the word "Beat" caused by the translation problem,and objectively interprets the spiritual core of the name "Beat";then,starting from the social and cultural background of the United States at that time,the explanation triggers The two major factors of the spiritual problem: the objective dilemma and the subjective desperate;then focus on the four ways to deal with the spiritual crisis,detailing the passion of the social criticism of the writers and the pain of spiritual struggle,in order to restore the true face of "Beat Generation".Specifically,they use words as a sharp edge to face criticism of a riddled capitalist society,or to shred the hypocritical United States as a "queer" or to turn to seek a family when exhausted.Asylum,or extracting energy from drugs and buddhas,in an attempt to get the ultimate relief of the spirit;at the end of the article,the deceased will be placed in the long river of history,facing the loneliness behind their rebellious wildness,summing up their indelible achievements.At the same time,they will have a fair reflection on the negative and destructive consequences they bring to society.
