A dream in Red Mansions is the pinnacle of Chinese classical novels which is a completely great tragedy.The author uses a fictitious space and time to deduce real human tragedies.Among them,family tragedy is not only one of the many tragedies in A dream in Red Mansions,but also an extremely important part of it.This thesis is divided into five chapters to expound the family tragedy of A dream in Red Mansions which analyze the causes,development process and significance of the tragedy.The first chapter makes a detailed analysis of the current situation of Jia Fu,mainly including the ethical order of Jia Fu,the internal affairs of Jia Fu and the internal contradictions among Jia Fu members in order to reveal the insults and ills in the Inheritance process of Jia Fu in five generations.The second chapter divides the rise and fall of Jia-family into three stages according to the time point when Grandma Liu entered Jia Fu three times.In the first stage,Jia-family can still maintain the demeanor of a century-old distinguished clan.In the second stage,due to Yuanchun is conferred the title of imperial concubine,Jia-family was flourishing for a while on the surface,but in fact,it was actually “the mountains and the rain are coming to the wind.” The third stage is the complete decline of Jia-family.The third chapter explores the main reasons for the decline of Jia-family which is a generation of men in Jia--family is inferior to a generation.This chapter discusses Jia Jing,Jia Zheng,Jia Amnesty,Jia Zhen and Jia Lian respectively which focuses on the great impact of Jia Baoyu's life choice on Jia-family.The fourth chapter lists four women who made vigorous efforts but failed to save Jia-family in the disaster.They are Jia Yuanchun,Wang Xifeng,Jia Tanchun and Qin Keqing.They stand in different positions and try to change the fate of the family in different ways,but they all end up in failure.The fifth chapter analyses the significance of family tragedy in A dream in Red Mansions.Family tragedy not only deepens the tragic implication of life and love in A dream in Red Mansions,but also is the author's support to express his prosperous dream,empty outlook on life and illusion.
