The text of this translation report is from the translation project of Law in the Ancient World.It is part of the translation of ancient legal historiography writings and is related to the discipline of legal translation.The text deals with the substantive law in the ancient Mesopotamian period which has a certain legal value.Due to the characteristics of the legal writings,the translation practice involves many aspects of legal translation,which helps improve the translation level of individuals.The assistance of parallel texts can help acquire the ancient law-related professional knowledge,learn terminology and draw on expressions.This translation report aims to explore the use of parallel texts in the translation of ancient legal historiography writings.The author takes the translation of Law in the Ancient World as an example to illustrate the use of parallel texts.In view of the differences between the concepts of law in ancient legal history and those in modern laws,coupled with the different styles of context,the author uses the parallel text to meet the following requirements in translation practice : a complete understanding of the full text,the use of accurate terminologies,and the optimization of contextual style.This translation report has some implications for the use of parallel texts in ancient legal translation.
